As a content marketing strategist and a travel blogger myself (datesinthestates.com), I understand how overwhelming social media can feel. You want to share your experiences, grow your audience, and drive traffic to your blog, but creating content for multiple platforms can feel like an endless task. This quarter, I’ve had the chance to help a travel blogging client streamline her social media and make every post count. Here’s a look at the strategy we used and why it works for bloggers like us.
We started by focusing on Instagram, her primary platform. Instagram isn’t necessarily the only place her audience engages with her, but it’s a great starting point. We want to pick one platform to be her primary and Instagram just seemed like a good fit, so it made sense to put the most creative energy there. So, each week I create a mix of carousels that tell a story or offer tips, single posts with eye-catching visuals and captions designed to connect, and reels that showcase quick, engaging content optimized for lead generation.
Once we had strong content for Instagram, we repurposed it for Facebook. Many bloggers make the mistake of trying to create separate content for each platform, which can quickly become exhausting. By reusing Instagram posts on Facebook, we saved time while keeping her messaging consistent and her audience engaged. No extra work on our part and Instagram makes it easy to automatically repost to Facebook.
Next, we turned Instagram captions into Pinterest Pins. Pinterest is a powerful tool for driving blog traffic, and by repurposing content, each caption serves multiple purposes. I rewrote captions to include Pinterest-friendly keywords and created multiple Pins for each blog post to increase reach and test performance. Every Pin links directly to her blog, helping grow readership and support her content strategy across platforms. We definitely wanted to include Pinterest in our strategy because it’s like a search engine similar to Google. As a blogger, you don’t want to neglect that.
Lastly, the reels we post to Instagram are also repurposed as YouTube Shorts. I’m making YouTube a priority this year not only for myself, but for all of my clients. Since Google’s update earlier this year, Google has been favoring YouTube videos in their Google Search results so having great performing videos for what people are searching for can direct traffic to her website. And since we are already creating videos for IG, it’s really no additional work on our part to be reposting to YT.
This approach creates an all-encompassing strategy where each piece of content has a clear purpose. Instagram builds community and brand awareness, Facebook and YouTube both extends reach without extra work, and Pinterest drives traffic back to the blog. By thinking about the content lifecycle, every post works harder without requiring double the effort.
This strategy works particularly well for travel bloggers who often have limited time and resources but need to maintain a strong online presence. Smart repurposing increases reach, engages multiple audiences, and builds a consistent brand across platforms.
Working on this project reinforced something I already know as both a content strategist and a travel blogger: the key is intentional, strategic planning. Instead of treating each platform as separate, thinking holistically allows content to perform on multiple fronts while saving time and energy.
If you’re a travel blogger or a small business looking to grow your social media and blog traffic without burning out, consider focusing on your main platform first, repurposing content across other channels, optimizing captions for search, and planning a content lifecycle that maximizes reach and engagement.
